JUST IN: Ganduje sacks media aide Yakasai, who criticised APC, Buhari

The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has sacked his Special Adviser on Media, Salihu Tanko Yakasai over “his continued unguarded comments and utterances which are deemed contrary to the stand of the All Progressive Congress (APC) government which he is serving”.

The state Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, who conveyed the governor’s directive in a statement Saturday, said the sack is with immediate effect.

Ganduje said the aide had failed to differentiate between personal opinion and official stand on matters of public concern and therefore cannot be allowed to continue to serve in a government he does not believe.

The governor also warned political appointees and public servants to guard against making statements capable of drawing superfluous controversy.

The statement reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Ganduje to the policies and programmes of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Herald had reported that Yakasai criticised the APC-led administration for failing to protect the lives and property of Nigerians.

He stated this while reacting to the abduction of 317 schoolgirls in a school in Zamfara State on Friday.

“Clearly, we as APC government, at all levels, have failed Nigerians in the number one duty we were elected to do, which is to secure lives and properties.

“Not a single day goes by without some sort of insecurity in this land. This is a shame! Deal with terrorists decisively or resign,” he tweeted.

His father and popular Second Republic politician, Tanko Yakasai, said his son was picked up by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) presumably over the critical comment same day and remains in the custody of the secret police as of the time of filing this report.

Recall that Salihu Yakasai was suspended in October 2020 by Governor Ganduje after criticising President Buhari’s handling of the #EndSARS protests.

He was reinstated two weeks later.
