Twitter confirms Trump ban is forever

Twitter says it is not going to lift the ban imposed on former US President Donald Trump, even if he runs for office again.

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the tech giant, Ned Segal confirmed this during an interview with CNBC’s Becky Quick.

Segal noted that anyone “inciting violence” on the micro-blogging platform risked a permanent ban.

“Whether you’re a commentator, you’re a CFO, or you are a former or current public official.

“Remember, our policies are designed to make sure that people are not inciting violence, and if anybody does that, we have to remove them from the service and our policies don’t allow people to come back,” Segal said.

Recall that Twitter banned then-President Trump on January 8, two days after a mob of supporters invaded the US Capitol, leading to the death of five persons, including a police officer.

The ban came shortly after Facebook and Instagram imposed a similar one. Other social media platforms also imposed one form of sanction or the other.

Twitter said Trump violated its term of service with his tweets during the riots which it deemed as “inciting”.
