A Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a mason, Shedrack Ojukwu, 22, to two months in prison for stealing an Ipad in a church in Abuja.
Senior Magistrate Chukwuemeka Ubani sentenced Ojukwu, who resides at Mashafa Road, Mpape, Abuja, after he pleaded guilty to the two-count charge.
The convict was arraigned for criminal trespass and theft contrary to Section 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.
According to the magistrate, the convict is to spend one month in prison or pay a fine of N2000 for the offence of criminal trespass.
The convict is to spend another one month or pay N3000 fine for the offence of theft. The sentences are to run consecutively.
Police prosecutor Christian Munonye said earlier that Ojukwu criminally trespassed into Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Catholic Church in Area 3, Abuja, pretending to be one of the worshippers.
He said that the convict stole the Ipad when other worshippers were going to the altar to give their offering.
Munonye said the convict was arrested by a police officer, Sgt. Jibo Mohammed, when he was leaving the church premises and taken to Garki Police Station on Aug. 9.
He said the Ipad was recovered from him during police investigation.
