Youths burnt my house, 11 cars, sent my family packing – Oyo Seriki Fulani

The Seriki Fulani of Oyo State, Alhaji Saliu Abdulkadir, says some youths have sent his family packing from their home, which they set ablaze alongside 11 cars.

According to him, other houses in the settlement were destroyed.

Sahara Reporters quoted Abdulkadir as saying said that he had to flee into the bush alongside his wife and children to avoid being attacked by the youths.

The Seriki Fulani lamented that security agents were around but did nothing as his properties were destroyed or torched.

“As we speak, we are in the bush. Our cars, numbering about 11, have been burnt. Some of my children sustained injuries and we are looking for a way to get them to hospital. My children have left their houses for the bush. We need the government to help us. Police, Operation Burst and other security agencies were there when they set my house ablaze,” the Fulani leader said.

The Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Jiji, confirmed the development.

“As we usually say, not all Fulani people are evil. Good people are among us. What can we call this now? The man is a gentleman and see how he was chased out of his house. We need the government to act now,” Jiji said.

The destruction came a week after Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho gave Fulani people in Ibarapa and Igangan areas a seven-day ultimatum to vacate the areas or risk eviction.

Igboho had blamed insecurity, including kidnappings and killings in the areas, on the activities of Fulani herdsmen.
