The United States of America (USA) has reportedly recorded its first case of the particularly infectious coronavirus variant, in the state of Colorado.
This much was confirmed by the Governor of the state, on Tuesday, via his Twitter handle.
“Today we discovered Colorado’s first case of the COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7, the same variant discovered in the UK,” the Colorado state governor, Jared Polis, tweeted.
The Governor pointed out that the infected person has “no travel history”.
“The individual is a male in his 20s who is currently in isolation in Elbert County and has no travel history,” an official statement from the Governor’s office and the state’s health officers read.
The statement also confirmed that the infected individual had no close contacts with members of the general public.
As per the report, contact tracing will now be used to pinpoint other potential cases as the latest development continues to be observed “very closely”.

The first two cases of the Covid-19 variant on the North American continent, were discovered in Canada, last weekend.
The new variant of the particularly infectious coronavirus recently emerged in Britain.
Health experts have stressed that this new variant is potentially more transmissible ad harder to detect.
The European Union health agency, ECDC, reveal that over 3,000 cases of the new variant have since been reported in the United Kingdom and dozens of countries in Europe and all across the globe.
The new strain has been linked to South Africa, transmitted by those who returned from that part of Africa.
In South Africa, over 300 cases of another variant have been recorded.
Europe have been confirmed three cases of that strain variant, with the UK witnessing 2 and Finland, 1.
All of the three have been connected to people returning from South Africa.
