Murray-Bruce offers to reconcile Buhari, Bishop Kukah

Senator for Bayelsa East in the 8th Senate, Ben Murray-Bruce has offered to reconcile President Muhammadu Buhari with Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah.

Murray-Bruce made the offer in a tweet on Monday.

Kukah constantly lampoons the Buhari administration over worsening insecurity and socio-economic conditions of Nigerians.

In a viral Christmas message, the popular cleric accused Buhari of nepotism, noting that no non-Northern Muslim President could get away with what the Buhari presidency was perpetrating.

“Every honest Nigerian knows that there is no way any non-Northern Muslim President could have done a fraction of what President Buhari has done by his nepotism and gotten away with it.

“There would have been a military coup a long time ago or we would have been at war. The President may have concluded that Christians will do nothing and will live with these actions.

“He may be right and we Christians cannot feel sorry that we have no pool of violence to draw from or threaten our country. However, God does not sleep. We can see from the inexplicable dilemma of his North,” Kukah said.

However, in a counter-statement by Information Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Federal Government warned clerics to “refrain from stigmatising the leader they have never supported anyway, using well-worn and disproved allegations of nepotism or whatever”.

Taking to Twitter, Murray-Bruce wrote, “I’m catholic, and so is Bishop Kukah. The religious faith in Nigeria is vital to our coexistence and must be seen as such.

“I, therefore, offer myself to bring together Bishop Kukah and President @MBuhari in the interest of Nigeria for a better understanding of each other,” Murray-Bruce said.
