Mangala’s Man City salary makes him World’s 2nd most expensive defender

Converted Fc Porto center back Eliaquim Hans Mangala having made an impressive breakthrough in his second season for the club has signed a £42.9m contact with European Premier League defending champions Manchester City, officially making him the 2nd most expensive defender in the World, behind PSG’s David Luiz.

The 23-year-old defender who was heavily linked with Manchester United and Chelsea was initially believed to be valued at £32m, but City ended up paying £42.9m for the center back. 24.4m to Porto, £4.3m to S.Liege, £14.2m to a 3rd party owner Doyen.

Mangala signed a 5-year contract with the Manchester City, making it City’s 6th signing of the season and  second from Porto FC, reuniting with his former partner in Porto’s defense, Fernando, who had joined City earlier in the summer.

In a Statement Released by Fc Porto today which read “Futebol Clube do Porto – Futebol, SAD, under Article 248 # 1 of the Securities Code, hereby informs the market that it has reached an agreement with Manchester City for transfer, permanently, the sporting rights of subscription, and 56.67% of the rights who held economic, professional football player Eliakim Mangala, the amount of € 30,500,000 (thirty million five hundred thousand euros),” officially confirmed the transfer.

Expressing his delight on joining the English side, Mangala in an Interview said “I am really looking forward to the challenge, and I
now need to settle in quickly and be ready for the season.” 

“I’m very happy to come to England because for me, the Premier League is the best league in the world. It is a very intense and very aggressive competition. There are plenty of goals, so it is also really nice to watch and I can’t wait to get started!” He added.

City’s boss Manuel Pellegrini believes Mangala is one of Europe’s best “I think he will prove to be a great signing for us.” – Pellegrini
said.
