President Muhammadu Buhari says he is “extremely worried” by insecurity in the country, hinting that some of the service chiefs could be relieved of their duties.

The president spoke in a Thursday interview with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in the wake of the release of 344 kidnapped students of Government Science Secondary School (GSSS), Kankara, Katsina State.

He also hinted that some of the nation’s service chiefs could be replaced, as has been demanded by the National Assembly and the majority of Nigerians.

“I am extremely worried about the insecurity, and I hope next year it will be different, those among the law enforcement agencies that will remain in charge will be extremely busy,” President Buhari said.

“We have a lot of work ahead. We have a lot of work to do,” the president noted, stressing that he could not say more at the moment so as not to jeopardise security.

Passing a message to the Armed Forces as the nation continues to battle insecurity, the President said: “Their effort is not good enough. But we will keep on trying.”

However, he assured Nigerians of his total commitment to their wellbeing as he marked his 78th birthday.

“I will continue to be loyal to this country.

“I asked for this mandate; I got it. So, I must not advance any excuse for failing to perform.
