Tems, Omah Lay to be Charged to Court

The Ugandan Police has explained that singers, ‘Omah Lay’ and ‘Tems’ were arrested for breaking Corona Virus regulations during an unsanctioned concert in the capital city, Kampala.

This much was revealed in a statement on Sunday via the official Facebook handle of the Police Force.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kampala Metropolitan Police, Patrick Onyango, further revealed that three Ugandan police officers were also arrested for enabling event planners host the show.

“Nine people have been arrested in connection with the unauthorized concert held last night in Ddungu Resort, Munyononyo, Kampala,” the statement read.

The statement further revealed the artistes arrested:

“Nigerian artistes, Stanley Omah Dibia aka “Omah Lay; Temilade Opeyemi (Tems); Muyiwa Awoniyi (Temilade’s manager); Ivan Ddungu (the manager of the spot); Benjamin Kabura (event organizer); and Prim Kasana (event manager).”

“The Police officers are: Fabiano Juma, Paul Odongo and John Ocaba,” the statement revealed.

Onyango explained that the suspects have broken Covid-19 protocols and will be charged to court.

“We condemn the act of selfish individuals who are bent on violating the directives on Covid-19 with the purpose of making money while risking the lives of Ugandans.

“We appeal to members of the public to adhere to the Ministry of Health guidelines on the prevention of the spread of Covid-19,” Onyanga said.

It will be recalled that the Ministry of Health had issued guidelines which prohibited large gatherings like concerts and music events.

The move was aimed to check the spread of the virus in the country.
