4 Min Read

Mr Olusegun Omolale has been appointed and decorated as the new Commandant, Corps of Commissionaires of the Nigerian Legion, Kwara Command.

Omolale was sworn in and decorated by the Assistant Commandant-General (ACG) of the legion in charge of North Central Zone, Daniel Joel, on Friday night.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Omolale replaced Prof Olasehinde Ibikunle, who has completed his tenure.

He described members of the Nigerian Legion, especially members of the executive, as one big family, saying “we joke, we do banter, but at the same time, we remain focused on fighting a battle and I know we are going to win together.

“We are moving forward together by the Grace of God. To the other officers and men of the Nigerian Legion Corps of Commissionaires, I will refer you to what Prof Olasehinde told us that this is just the beginning and the foundation.

“We are told that he laid a German foundation and God will sustain us, God will sustain us and guide us.

“I will not want to dwell much in praising my immediate past Commandant, but I must mention to you that if not for him and his persuasion, I see the task of becoming a commandant as very gigantic.

“If you are not a man, if you are a man with jelly liver, you may not be able to support to become a commandant.”

He said that the work of serving humanity is based on what you believe, adding that the philosophy of the Nigerian Legion is in tandem with his goal to serve selflessly and to serve humanity at whatever capacity

“I have been privileged to serve in the Presidential Committee on Police Equipment Foundation as chairman, publicity.

“We spent our money, we raise millions of naira, until they scattered us. Today the contribution we made to the welfare of Nigeria Police is on record and nobody has rivalled it.

“Coming to Nigerian Legion, I promise and pledge to God working in me, that we are going forward together.

He said that the Legion in Kwara is facing a lot of challenges, such as office accommodation, operational vehicles and fund.

“On funding, I am happy the federal government is thinking in that direction,” he said, adding that in Kwara, “we operate a self-account system.”

“Talking about empowerment programmes, we contribute, we make self-sacrifice to ensure that we succeed and this would not stop, we will not relent in our efforts.”

The new commandant said Nigerian Legion is in collaboration with the wife of the Governor to reach out to widows of the fallen soldiers, adding that the widows benefitted from palliatives distributed.

He also commended Dr Rex Olawoye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara, for paying up to N100, 000 for the school fees of one of the children of fallen soldiers.

Earlier, in his remarks, ACG Joe Gimba told Omolale that the position of a Commandant comes with heavy responsibility, saying “take the Kwara command to greater heights.”

Gimba admonished the new commandant to build a cordial relationship with other security agencies in the state.
