Chief Judge (CJ) of Kano State, Justice Nura Sagir-Umar, has released 37 inmates from across the Custodial Centres in the state, as part of efforts to decongest the centres championed by the federal government.

A statement issued to newsmen on Thursday in Kano, by the Chief Public Relations Officer of the Kano Correctional Centre, Musbahu Lawan, confirmed the development while quoting the CJ as telling the released inmates to be of good behaviour and make the best use of the opportunity to engage in productive ventures, instead of crime.

Sagir-Umar, who announced the release during a 2-day jail delivery exercise, also gave each of the former inmates N2,000 transport fare to their homes.

According to the statement, the Controller, Correctional Service Kano State Command, Suleiman Suleiman, urged the released inmates to restrain themselves from any further misconduct.

He also counselled them to be law-abiding citizens and engage in productive ventures that could bring development to the state and the nation at large.
