The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says its 2011 and 2015 presidential candidate, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan was not planning defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan stated this on Thursday while appearing on a Lagos television station programme.
He spoke against the backdrop of a November visit by some APC governors to the former president’s Abuja home.
Details of the meeting remain a mystery.
The Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, who recently defected to APC, had stated that some PDP bigwigs would follow suit.
However, Ologbondiyan said that Jonathan was not leaving the party.
The party spokesman stated that the PDP was neither bothered by Umahi’s defection nor APC governors’ visit to the former president.
“Why should we be bothered about people who are working on innuendos and are claiming they are working. Where is the action?
“Because some governors went to visit (former) President Goodluck Jonathan on his birthday, then, it is concluded that he has joined APC? For me, there are many things I cannot say in the public but I want to assure Nigerians that former President Goodluck Jonathan is politically savvy enough to know he has no space in the All Progressives Congress,” Ologbondiyan said.
