Delayed salary: Police warn personnel against venting on social media

Police authorities have warned personnel against taking to social media to vent about the delay in payment of their November salary.

This was communicated via an internal memo dated December 7 and copied to zonal assistant inspectors-general of police, departments and formations by the Force’s account and budget office, Peoples Gazette reported.

The memo warned of severe sanctions for violators, noting that the delayed salary payment was not peculiar to the police as other federal agencies were experiencing same.

However, the memo did not state the reason behind the delay in payment of the remuneration.

“INGENPOL directs that COMPOLS should lecture their personnel on this development, that on no account should personnel indulge in any act of indiscipline by way of misuse of social media platforms to ridicule the government,” the memo read in part.

A police inspector, who craved anonymity, explained to this reporter that the delay in salary payment had subjected his family to hardship.

He said that the Federal Government’s delay of November salaries could further dampen the morale of policemen just recovering from the fallouts of the #EndSARS protests in which 22 policemen were killed and police infrastructure severely damaged.
