5 years of Buhari, not fresh #EndSARS protests, destroying Nigerian economy – Omokri

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri says those saying another round of #EndSARS protests will destroy the Nigerian economy are blind to reality.

He stated this in a Facebook post on Monday shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari warned against fresh protests.

Buhari warned that any act of “hooliganism hiding behind lawful and peaceful protests will be dealt with decisively to ensure peace and stability in the country”.

Many pro-government stakeholders have advised against fresh #EndSARS protests because of potential negative impacts on the security and economy of the nation.

In a special broadcast on Sunday, Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello said, “I deem another round of #EndSARS protests to be premature and counter-productive at this time.

“Apart from the higher likelihood of conflict with the police, we must also admit that the security situation in the country is very precarious at the moment.”

He added, “It is also true that we live in an economy that is bleeding badly right now. Traditional responses to COVID-19 has hurt, not just Nigeria, but all other countries of the world. Many have fallen into recession.

“To worsen matters, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) predicted three days ago that the pandemic could push the number of people living in extreme poverty to over one billion by 2030.

“Thank God they are owning up to my earlier prediction, warning and caution.

“Nigeria’s earning and foreign exchange situation is too fragile as we speak to resist sustained shocks.

“Another nationwide protest will worsen the multidimensional poverty indices all over our country and work greater hardship on the ordinary Nigerians we claim to be advocating for.”

Reacting, Omokri said, “Those saying another round of #EndSARS will destroy our economy are blind to reality.

“5 years of General Buhari has already destroyed our economy! Today’s Nigeria is like Egypt after Moses’s plagues. Our Naira is destroyed. Our security is destroyed. Our freedoms are destroyed! Our unity is being destroyed via nepotism (the 3 arms of government are headed by Northerners. The military is totally led by Northerners).

“EndSARS will not destroy our economy. You can’t destroy what has already been destroyed. The only way is up!”
