On passing Barcelona’s medical test yesterday, Belgian defender Thomas
Vermaelen, today, completed a five-year contract with the Spanish side. 28-year-old Thomas was reportedly signed to Barcelona for £15m, a £3m increase on what he earned at Arsenal.
“Thomas Vermaelen is now officially an FC Barcelona player” Barcelona announced.
Thomas who was nicknamed ‘the Verminator’ by Arsenal fans has been with the North London side for 5 years, coming from Ajax, and was also Arsenal’s Captain for the last two seasons taking over from Van Persie following Persie’s transfer to Manchester United.
The Central back player was also linked with Manchester United but the Red Devils failed to complete the transfer as they could not meet up with the Gunners terms which was to include a player in their initial deal.
Arsene Wenger is set to find a worthy replacement for Vermaelen in His team.
