APC to PDP: Jonathan working for us

2 Min Read

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) says former President Goodluck Jonathan has been working for the party and the President Muhammadu Buhari administration because he is a “progressive” politician.

Deputy National Publicity Secretary of APC, Yekini Nabena stated this while taunting the PDP during a Friday appearance on Channels Television‘s Politics Today.

Nabena’s statement came following a back-and-forth that ensued between the two leading parties after some APC governors visited the Abuja residence of Jonathan, who is a PDP chieftain.

The Herald had reported that Dave Umahi, the Governor of Ebonyi State who recently dumped PDP for APC, was in the delegation, fuelling insinuations that the purpose of the visit was to convince the ex-president to join the ruling party.

The PDP had described the visit as a “desperate” move, causing the APC to say that the PDP was “rattled” by it.

Speaking on Friday, Nabena said PDP was not a worthy opposition party.

He stated, “We are not desperate. Goodluck Jonathan has been working for this government, he has been going to all African countries. If he is not a progressive person, he won’t have been working for this government.”

Recall that the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) appointed Jonathan as Special Envoy to Mali, to prevent a political stalemate from plunging the country into crisis.

The ex-president had visited President Buhari, who granted him the use of the presidential jet, to give him feedback after visits to the neighbouring West African nation.
