An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Monday remanded a 20-year-old man, Amubieya Timileyin, over alleged N2.5 million fraud.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov. 18, at about 4:41 p.m. at Aba Iya-Gani area in Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendant obtain the sum of N2.5 million from one Akinrodoye Olakunle with the pretence of selling a Lexus 350 LR  to the complainant, but that he failed to do.

He said that the defendant converted the money to his own use.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 383(3), 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of fraud and stealing.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Sunday Olagbaju, applied for bail for the defendant in the most liberal term.

Olagbaju pledged that his client would not jump bail and that he would provide reliable sureties.

The Magistrate, Mr A. A. Adebayo, did not grant bail to the defendant.

He, however, told the defence counsel to come up with a written application.

Adebayo, therefore, ordered the remand of the defendant in the correctional facility at Ile-Ife.

He adjourned the case until Dec. 10 for hearing.
