JUST IN: Super Eagles Play Goalless Draw In Sierra Leone

2 Min Read

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have played out a goalless draw with Sierra Leone in the return leg of their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The match played at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown followed a pulsating first leg at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Edo State on Friday.

The first encounter ended in a dramatic 4 – 4 scoreline, after Gernot Rohr’s men went 4 – 0 in the first few minutes of the game.

After the game, captain Ahmed Musa apologised to Nigerians, promising that the boys would head to Freetown and snatch victory.

However, that was not to be as the home side displayed the same resilience that fetched them an unlikely point in the first leg.

The Super Eagles were on the edge of snatching a winner in the 82nd minute after Kelechi Iheanacho got hold.

However, his curled shot was parried to safety by the Sierra Leonean goalkeeper, Mohamed N. Kamara.

Despite the result, the Super Eagles maintained their lead in Group L with eight points after four games, followed by Benin Republic, who have seven points from four games.

Sierra Leone are a distant third with 3 points after four games, and Lesotho are last with two points from four games.
