Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed concern over the fate of the 12 kidnapped policemen.

The victims were on their way from Zamfara to Borno State on Tuesday when the incident occurred.

All the abductees were Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs).

According to BBC Hausa, one of the victims called his wife to ask her to raise N1 million for his release or there would be trouble.

“He called me on Wednesday and told me that he was in the hands of the kidnappers.

“I can’t tell you I have any other information. We are in a state of frustration,” the victim’s wife was quoted to have said.

Reacting to the incident, Atiku said it was worrisome that policemen that should be protecting Nigerians were getting kidnapped themselves.

He implored the Federal Government to do everything possible to secure the release of the kidnapped policemen.

“I am concerned like many men and women of goodwill that a dozen police officers, who are charged with the protection of our lives and properties, are themselves victims of kidnapping.

“No resource should be spared to free them,” Atiku wrote on Twitter.
