“Things aren’t working well in the country” – Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike says it is evident that Nigeria is not working and is sitting on a keg of gunpowder.

He said that the nation needs the church’s support and prayers to pull through its various challenges.

According to him, this was not the time for the church to pretend like all is well.

The governor stated this Friday when the Primate of the All Nigeria Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Henry Chukwuka Ndukuba, led a delegation of the Church on a courtesy visit to the Government House, Port Harcourt.

“This is the time for the church not to be docile, this is the time for the church to speak out.

When society is bad, it affects the church. When governance is bad, it affects the church. No matter how we look at it. Nobody can run away from it, things are not working well in the country.

The way the country is supposed to be is not where we are. Even when you are on the pulpit, it is an opportunity to speak to your members that things are not well,” Wike said.

In the same vein, Wike said as a Christian he had no apology for handing over the State to God.

The governor announced a donation of N500 million on behalf of the Rivers State Government to support the Anglican Church education development and mission fund.

He equally challenged Ndukuba to implore his members to obey COVID-19 protocols, noting that security report at his disposal showed that churches have not been complying.
