A man, who worked as a lumberjack and radio repairman, was beheaded on Wednesday night by unknown attackers in Fana, a Malian town some 120 km from Bamako on the road to Segou, according to security sources.
The victim, Bamba Traore, 55, lived in Fana for more than 40 years. He is the ninth person to be beheaded in that city in a five-year interval, local sources said.
The governor of Dioila region, which includes Fana, Dédéou Bagna Maïga visited the crime scene and met with the bereaved family to express condolences of the highest authorities in the country.
He also met with the youth, the defence and security forces, and the political, administrative and customary authorities of the locality to find a solution to these heinous crimes that recur in the locality. He encouraged the population to collaborate with security forces to curb the scourge.
Another person and a little girl were beheaded in the same area earlier this year. (PANA/NAN)
