Tesla Now Sells Tequila In A Thunderbolt Bottle For $250

2 Min Read

Tesla Inc (TSLA) has added Tequila as a merchandise offering on its online store. The electric automaker is taking orders for its “Teslaquila” in select states in the United States.

The tequila which the company described as a “dry fruit and light vanilla nose with a balanced cinnamon pepper finish made from sustainably sourced highland and lowland agaves,” is housed in a handblown 750ml glass bottle shaped in the electric charge symbol. And at $250 per bottle, it’s certainly not a cheap indulgence.

Each customer is limited to just two bottles of the tequila. Shipping is included in the price and deliveries are expected to start late 2020.

Tesla Tequila might be first liquor sold by an automaker. According to the company, the liquor is produced by Nosotros Tequila.

Tesla’s dabble in alcoholic beverage first popped up in April 2018 when the company’s CEO, Elon Musk, tweeted a photo of himself passed out against a Tesla Model 3 “surrounded by “Teslaquilla” bottles, the tracks of dried tears still visible on his cheeks.” In the photo, Musk is holding a cardboard sign that reads “bankwupt.”

Later that year, Tesla filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark “Teslaquila.”

Tesla shares closed nearly 4.1% higher at $438.09 on Thursday and fell 1.3% in the after-hours session to $432.40.
