Military moved 20 dead bodies of #EndSARS protesters to mortuary – Report

2 Min Read

Soldiers moved 20 dead bodies of #EndSARS protesters shot at the Lekki Toll Gate to a mortuary in Yaba, Lagos, a new report has claimed.

Sahara Reporters reported that the soldiers deposited the remains of the deceased at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) mortuary in Yaba on Friday.

This, the report claimed, was after postmortem examinations were conducted on the bodies at the Department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

The IDH mortuary is beside the 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital (68 NARHY), a military health facility in Yaba.

Recall that armed men in military fatigues opened fire on #EndSARS protesters on Tuesday, October 20.

The incident generated worldwide furore.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu later confirmed that the armed men were soldiers.

Although the Army first denied that its men were at the scene, it later admitted soldiers were at the toll gate at the time of the incident but claimed they did not fire at protesters.

The Army further said that the Lagos State Government invited it to maintain law and order after declaring a 24-hour curfew in the state.

In a release on its website on Thursday, Amnesty International showed how military vehicles left the Bonny Cantonment and headed for the toll gate located few kilometres away.
