Ondo guber: Akeredolu, Jegede, Agboola sign peace pact

Ahead of the October 10 gubernatorial election in Ondo State, the candidates in the election on Tuesday signed a peace pact coordinated by the National Peace Committee (NPC) under former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar.

Incumbent Governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rotimi Akeredolu, candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede and candidate of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Agboola Ajayi led 13 others to sign the peace pact witnessed by Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmoud Yakubu and traditional rulers from the state.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah, Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja Catholic Diocese, John Cardinal Onaiyekan also witnessed the signing.

At the event, the candidates promised to abide by the peace accord and shun violent conduct as well as encourage their supporters to do the same.

The Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu said the election would be peaceful, charging INEC to ensure a credible, free and fair electoral process.

Also, the PDP candidate, Jegede charged the security agencies to maintain their neutrality.
