The newly-reelected Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu on Monday paid a courtesy call to the home of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku shared photos of the visit on Tuesday with the caption: Yesterday, at my residence in Abuja, I played host to @GovernorObaseki and Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, who were recently re-elected for a second term in Edo State.

The former vice president had backed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate to emerge victorious in the September 19 poll.
In a congratulatory message after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Obaseki as winner of the poll, Atiku described his victory as a declaration of independence from godfatherism.
“There is a new dawn in Edo State, and the hard-won victory of Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki is not just a victory, but a Declaration of Independence from the anti-democratic forces of godfatherism and militarism.
“No victory could be sweeter than this, and I heartily congratulate the Governor, and the good people of Edo state for their resilience in the face of the forces arrayed against them,” he said.
