Nigeria@60: NGO Offers Free Medical Services to Residents of Nasarawa

An NGO, Oveysha Foundation, on Thursday provided free medical services to residents of Nasarawa Egggon Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, to mark Nigeria’s 60th Independence Anniversary.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the organization also distributed wrappers to 116 widows in the area.

Founder of the NGO, Mr Ovey Bashayi-Albert, said that the gesture was meant to address the health challenges of the indigents and ameliorate the plight of widows in the area.

“We have been touching the lives of people in our own little way. Today, we are distributing wrappers to over 100 widows as part of our commitment to change their lives positively.

“Apart from the wrappers, you can see that the foundation is also providing free medical services which included free hepatitis test and vaccination, treatment of prostate gland enlargement among others.

“It has been said that a healthy nation is a wealthy nation, hence the need for the free medical outreach,” he said.

He said the foundation had also embarked on sensitization campaign towards addressing the menace of drug abuse as well as promoting peace and unity for the development of the society.

Bashayi-Albert  restated the organisation’s commitment to key into government policies and programmes that would improve the lives of the widows, orphans and the aged.

Also speaking, National President, Eggon Youth Movement, Mr  Daniel Anyuabaga, decried the plight of widows in African societies given the hardship they often experience after the death of their husbands.

Anyuabaga lauded the foundation for touching the lives of the widows and indigents positively.

He appealed to governent and other stakeholders to always reach out to widows through empowerment programme that would  make  them self-reliant and to cater for their families.

Responding to the gesture on behalf of beneficiaries, Mrs Halima Danladi, thanked the NGO for the free medical outreach and gift item to widows.

She prayed God to reward the organisation in order to do more for humanity.
