Fuel Price Hike: Nurses and Midwives Issue Ultimatum to Federal Government

2 Min Read

Members of Organised Labour in Nigeria have begun to wake up from their slumber as the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNW) have become the latest union to issue an ultimatum to the Federal Government regarding the recent increase in the prices of petrol and electricity.

The Nurses and Midwives union joined the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in issuing the ultimatum, saying it would embark on a nationwide industrial action if the Federal Government failed to reverse the prices of petrol and electricity.

Excerpts from a statement sent by the Nurses and Midwives Union to Journalists in Abuja read;

“I write to forward herewith the communique issued at the end of the Central Working Committee of the NLC held on September 16 2020.

“In summary, the meeting discussed the unprecedented hike in the cost of Petroleum Motor Spirit (and) the outrageous increase in electricity tariffs.

The meeting resolved to issue a 14 days ultimatum to the Federal Government within which to reverse the increases or face an indefinite strike.

You are by this letter directed to start mobilisation and sensitisation of our members. We shall keep you posted on any further development in this regard.”
