Edo 2020: Huge blow for Obaseki as commissioner resigns, declares support for Ize-Iyamu

Ikpea

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has lost his Commissioner for Minerals, Oil and Gas, Joseph Ikpea, 10 days to the governorship election in the state.

Ikpea resigned his appointment in a letter addressed to the governor on Wednesday and declared support for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Giving reasons for his decision, the commissioner said, “Politics is all about interest, trust and respect for one another, but I have never seen any of this till date, and I am also not sure of it even if there is tomorrow.

“Moreover, the party that is known today as APC was brought to Esan South East by me and over 90 percent of my supporters are APC members till date. So, it is difficult for me to leave the house that I built. Considering also that this administration didn’t recognise my leadership role.”

However, he vowed to be ready to provide support for the government of the state when required to do so.

The Herald can report that some appointees of Obaseki, including two commissioners, had resigned their appointments over the course of few months leading to the September 19 guber polls.
