Southern Kaduna: Why Christian, Muslim Peace Accord Won’t End Killings – Shehu Sani

2 Min Read
Shehu Sani

The Senator for Kaduna Central in the Eight Senate, Shehu Sani, says a peace accord between warring Christian and Muslim communities in Southern Kaduna may not bring an end to wanton killings in the volatile region.

Two communities in Jema’a local government area, Dangoma and Takau in Kannikon and Zipak chiefdoms respectively, on Saturday signed a peace treaty to live in harmony.

This followed a clash in Zipak where many persons were killed and others wounded.

The clash was said to have developed from a disagreement between the two communities.

Reacting, Sani said that while the peace accord was a commendation step, it would not end the killings because there were other angles to the crisis beyond the ethno-religious angle.

He said banditry, kidnapping and terrorism angles have to be tackled frontally by the government to finally put an end to the insecurity bedevilling the area.

“Peace accord between Muslim and Christian communities or between hostile tribes can only resolve or remedy ethno religious conflicts; But Banditry, Kidnappings and terrorism can only be tackled by the strong action of the Government & security agencies. The difference should be noted,” Sani stated.
