Members of a vigilante group in Katsina resisted an attack on their village by bandits, killing one and sustaining one casualty.
The bandits attacked Yantara village in Danmusa local government area of Katsina State, around 1 A.M on Tuesday, where they met resistance by the vigilante group who mobilized themselves. One of the village residents, Mamman Dahiru lost his life to the bandits while defending the village.

The assailants however still managed to assault some residents, looted homes and rustled some animals belonging to the villagers. They were making their escape when they ran into an ambush laid for them by members of the vigilante group who inflicted injuries on the bandits, killing one in the process.
The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police command, SP Gambo Isah who said, “The incident happened about 1.a.m on Tuesday. The bandits had attacked Yantara village and the vigilante group in the area engaged them during which an unidentified bandit was killed while a 30-year-old man from the village, Mamman Dahiru was also killed.”
Villages in Nigeria’s North-West are beginning to organise themselves against the menace of armed banditry and kidnapping after the apparent failure of the Nigeria Police to fulfil its constitutional role of securing lives and property.
