Madu

Kaycee Madu, the first black man to occupy either Provincial or Federal Justice positions of the Justice Minister, Attorney General or Solicitor General in the history of Canada, has a message for Nigeria and the African continent.

Recall that Madu was in August appointed the Justice Minister and Solicitor-General of Alberta, a province (state) in Canada.

He was born and raised in South-Eastern Nigeria.

A 2001 law graduate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), he had emigrated to Canada with his wife in 2005.

A member of the United Conservative Party and the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Edmonton-South West, Madu was first appointed Minister of Municipal Affairs of Alberta on April 30, 2019.

Joining other Nigerians in congratulating the minister on his new appointment, President Muhammadu Buhari described it as “historic”.

Similarly, President of the Edmonton-based African Canadian Civic Engagement Council, Dunia Nur, said Madu has become a role model for the community.

But reacting to the congratulatory messages, the Canadian minister said he looked forward to a “day when Nigeria and Africa become places where hard work and merit are rewarded”.
