The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has withdrawn it’s invitation to the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai to speak at it’s, 2020 General Conference after a public outcry by lawyers across the country.
Lawyers across the country had expressed their displeasure at the invitation extended to El-Rufai to speak on the platform of the NBA citing his human rights records as well as his reactions to the killings in Southern Kaduna.

An online petition against the invite had been started by the lawyers with more than 3,000 signatures calling for the NBA to withdraw it’s invitation to the Kaduna State Governor.
Announcing it’s decision via Twitter, the NBA tweeted;
“The National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association at its ongoing meeting resolves that the invitation to the Kaduna State Governor, H.E. Nasir El-Rufai, by the 2020 Annual General Conference Planning committee be withdrawn and decision communicated to the Governor.”
Several lawyers had also written a petition to the Chairman of the technical committee of the conference, Prof. Koyinsola Ajayi asking him not to allow El-Rufai speak at the event, citing poor human rights records.
