Bayelsa PDP Owes Landlord N105m in Accumulated Rent

2 Min Read

The landlord of the building occupied by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has appealed to the party to pay up its debt of N105m in accumulated rent.

The landlord, Mr. Ben Walson, alleged that his tenants have started vacating the building without paying the outstanding sum after he obtained a court judgement against the party.

He said that although the court ordered the party to pay the rent accumulated over six years, PDP officials wrote to inform him of their intention to quit the building.

Mr. Walson obtained a court judgement against the party on June 18, 2020, ordering it to pay up the N105m debt.

“After the judgment, the party, through one of the executives, approached my lawyer on how to settle the debt.

“The party’s state chairman, Solomon Agwana, and the secretary, Gesiye Isowo, however, have written to me, stating that they are officially vacating my property after destroying same,” the landlord said.

The Bayelsa state PDP Chairman, Solomon Agwana confirmed the development and said the move was being made in so that the old tenancy will be terminated due to the order of the court.

He said the party has appealed the judgement but is hoping for an out of court settlement with the landlord.
