President Buhari Vows to Probe all Past and Present Cases of Corruption

2 Min Read

President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to probe all past and present cases of corruption in Nigeria in his continued fight against the menace.

President Buhari spoke on Friday at the presidential villa saying there has been abuse of trust by public officials in past administration as well as within his own government.

He said his planned probe of all corruption cases was the reason for the setting up of a presidential panel.

The presidential panel led by Justice Ayo Salami has been responsible for the probe of the former acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu on allegations of looting of recovered funds, mismanagement of recovered assets and the abuse of office.

The President told newsmen on Friday, that he expected all the recovered monies to be deposited in the Treasury Single Account (TSA). He also reiterated that he expected recovered assets to be sold and the proceeds also deposited in the TSA domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

In a later statement released by the President’s aide, Shehu Garba, President Buhari said;

All past and present corrupt cases will be fully investigated. All of such cases will be uncovered and firmly dealt with by his government. This is why we put the commission (of investigation) in place. There has been abuse of trust by people trusted by the previous administration and this administration.”
