Senator Shehu Sani has revealed why Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) disrespect the National Assembly.
He gave the insight in a tweet on Sunday in apparent reaction to recent occurrences in the National Assembly.
In few weeks, different groups and individuals walked out in protest during National Assembly hearings, calling the lawmakers’ bluff.
Recall that Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo SAN walked out on a Senate committee over the controversial 774,000 ad-hoc jobs under his ministry in July.
Few days after, and apparently taking a cue from the senior lawyer, Ambassador of Lebanon to Nigeria, Houssam Diab, walked out on the House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora Affairs after he was asked to explain the maltreatment of Nigerians in the Middle-Eastern nation.
Penultimate Thursday, the Pondei Kemerbrandikumo-led Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) staged a walkout on the House of Representatives Committee investigating the commission over alleged corruption.
According to Sani, the MDAs disrespect the legislature because the lawmakers do not respect themselves.
Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, wrote, “Why heads of MDAs disrespect legislators; Legislators incessant requests for favors in form of contracts or Job slots. Needless summons by committees. Unofficial visits by Committee heads to MDAs. The subservient badge of the legislators. The integrity of d committee chair & members.”
