Southern Kaduna: Herdsmen shot my dad 3 times in the head, killed 8 others – Joel Amadi

A popular musician, Joel Amadi has said that violent herdsmen shot his father three times in the head and killed eight others on Friday.

In a series of tweets on Saturday, he said the incident occurred in Zikpak Village, Kafanchan, in the volatile Southern Kaduna.

Throughout the day, he shared photos of persons allegedly massacred in the community and environs. He equally shared photos of women demonstrating half-clad to protest the killings.

The Kennis Music artiste explained that his father was a pig farmer who went out to check on his pigs when he was gunned down.

Amadi lamented that despite the massacre going on in the area, there were no soldiers in sight to assure residents of their safety.

He noted that only a handful of policemen were in the area to provide security for the mass burial of victims including his dad.

“I want Governor Nasir El-Rufai to know that this would not stop. I am not coming violently against the Kaduna State government.

“However, I will use my platform to make sure that the governor and his cabinet ensure the security of lives in the state.

“I will also work towards getting international organisations to know about the issue.

“ It is so sad that I lost my father but it’s not just about him. I will make sure he didn’t die in vain. As I speak with you, people have deserted the village. Where are they supposed to go?

“One’s village is supposed to be one’s last resort but now, the villagers would have to run to the city.

“If the governor is aware of these killings and he’s not taking concrete action, then it’s time for we (the people) to do something.

“I have never spoken against bad governance but this time, I can assure the governor that he would hear my voice,” Sunday Punch quoted him as saying.

The Herald can report that the governor imposed a 24-hour curfew on Jemaa and Kaura local government areas on Friday night following gunmen attacks on three communities of Zikpak, Ungwan Masara, in Fantsuam Chiefdom of Jema’a LGA, and Maraban Kagoro, in Kaura LGA of the state.

This was in addition to the subsisting curfew on Kauru and Zangon Kataf LGAs.
