The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami had ordered the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) to halt the implementation of its new charges following an angry backlash from Nigerians on social media.
According to the new charges by NIPOST, companies which provide international courier services like DHL, UPS and FEDEX, are expected to pay N20m for a new licence and N8m annually while those offering national services are expected to pay N10m for licence and N4m yearly for renewal.
Isa Pantami ordered the government agency to halt it’s planed introduction of new license fees for logistics and courier companies which has sparked outrage against the Federal Government on social media.

According to the minister who quoted a tweet by NIPOST announcing the new fees, the new charges were not part of the new set of regulations which he approved for the agency as supervising Minister.
He thereafter ordered that the implementation be put on hold and the management of NIPOST should send a report regarding the increment Monday.
“Please NIPOST, our attention has been drawn to an increase of licence fee, which was not part of the regulation I earlier approved for you. Your chairman and PMG (Postmaster-General) were yesterday contacted to put the implementation on hold and send a report to our ministry by Monday. Best wishes.” The Minister tweeted.
Nigerians are also expressing outrage at the 6 percent stamp duty imposed on rent by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
Most people have wondered why at a time that most governments around the world were making life easy for their citizens, the Nigerian Government was bent on frustrating its citizens.
Many also wondered if the Nigerian Government was deliberately pushing its citizens to commit crimes to survive because of the rate of taxes being imposed on the country.
