President  Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the Senate resolution calling for the removal of the service chiefs.

The Senate passed the resolution Tuesday following a motion moved by Senator Ali Ndume (APC – Borno South).

The upper chamber asked the service chiefs to “step aside” to allow a new set with fresh ideas to tackle the nation’s security challenges.

Reacting in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the president said he noted the resolution.

However, he reiterated that the decision to fire or keep the service chiefs remained a presidential prerogative.

The statement read, “The Senate Tuesday adopted a resolution calling on the Service Chiefs to resign or be sacked due to the multi-pronged security challenges in the country.

“The Presidency notes the resolution, and reiterates that appointment or sack of Service Chiefs is a Presidential prerogative, and President Muhammadu Buhari, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, will do what is in the best interest of the country at all times.”
