The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan has reacted to rumours that he is planning a bid for the presidency in 2023 after the expiration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term in office.
Rumors had made the rounds last week that Lawan had started underground work towards clinching the presidency come 2023. The unconfirmed reports also alleged that he had paid influencers and praise singers in certain quarters to help re-brand his image in the buildup to 2023.

The Senate President however denied the allegations, saying he had no presidential ambitions towards 2023.
Speaking through a statement issued through his special adviser on Media, Ola Awoniyi, the Senate president said it was too early for anyone to start campaigning towards 2023.
Excerpts from the statement read;
“The report apparently has its source in beer parlour gossips and should be treated with the contempt which it and those who concocted it deserves.
“It is true that the Senate President was involved in the consultations that President Muhammadu Buhari held prior to the last emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress.”
