Magu speaks after release from detention, reveals those behind his ordeal

Suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu says he is happy to be back.

He spoke on Wednesday evening after his release from detention, more than a week after he was taken into custody and whisked before a special presidential probe panel investigating corruption allegations against him.

Magu said he was shocked when he read the “trumped-up” allegations against him, adding that his ordeal was a case of “dog-eat-dog”.

He noted that his travails could be traced to corruption fighting back but he said he would not back down in his bid to support the president’s anti-corruption war.

The suspended EFCC boss said that Nigerians must not be discouraged as the war is “winnable”.

Magu said, “They should not be discouraged. I am happy to be back, I believe the war against corruption is winnable. They should not give up on the fight because corruption kills a nation faster than any other thing.

“It is not a personal fight. Whether I am EFCC Chairman or not, the anti-corruption war must continue.”

Addressing allegations of corruption, he said, “The allegations are merely trumped-up allegations to tarnish my image and that of the EFCC. I did not steal or divert or convert funds to private use. I read the allegations and I was shocked.”
