No fewer than 5,314 persons were scammed of their hard earned money after they fell for hackers who promised to double their investment through Bill Gates and Elon Musk’s Twitter accounts.
Some Twitter users have begun to wail on the bird app after they saw a tweet on Bill Gates’ verified account asking users to send bitcoin to an address to make a double profit of their investment.
Unsuspecting users going up to 5,314 persons immediately sent their bitcoin in a bid to make quick cash.
However, their hopes have been dashed after Twitter revealed it was a scam and promised to look into the incident.
Hackers targeted the top shots of the Tech world as well as politicians such as former US President Barack Obama, Joe Boden, including Tech giants like Apple, Elon Musk, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, YouTube’s Mr. Beast all had their accounts hacked on Wednesday. Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa in the entertainment industry had the same message on their handles.
The hackers through Bill Gates account tweeted;
“Everyone is asking me to give back, and now is the time.
“I am doubling all payments sent to my BTC address for the next 30 minutes. You send $1000, I send you back $2000.”
Although hackers took down the tweets two minutes after it got posted, over $7.8 million has been sent to the fake address.
