Magu: Don’t reject food in public, eat in secret – Shehu Sani mocks suspended EFCC boss

Senator Shehu Sani has mocked suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu over claims that he plans to embark on hunger strike.

The embattled policeman has been in police detention since Monday, when he was arrested and whisked before a special presidential panel investigating allegations of corruption against him. The panel is led by retired Justice Ayo Salami.

Magu is reportedly considering the option of hunger strike if the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu fails to grant him bail.

The suspended EFCC boss wrote the police boss through his lawyer, Oluwatosin Ojaomo on Friday to demand bail on “self recognisance”. He remains in detention.

Reacting through his Twitter handle, Sani, who is being prosecuted by the EFCC for extortion and attempting to bribe judges,  scoffed at Magu’s purported decision to go on hunger strike.

Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, urged Magu to be honest in carrying out his reported threat.

While not mentioning Magu’s name, Sani wrote, “Nigerian style hunger strike is to reject food officially brought to your cell and take a heavy dosage of eba or Gari behind the scene.

“Anyone going on hunger strike must be monitored to ensure compliance.”
