The Lagos State Government has sealed ten private schools in the state for holding lessons in contravention of COVID-19 inspired restrictions.
This was disclosed by the Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni who led a team to monitor the level of compliance to the restrictions by private schools in the state.
According to the DG, while most private schools in the state complied with the restrictions, ten were found wanting and were sealed by the monitoring team.
She revealed that the affected private schools were holding lessons in their premises while disregarding social distancing rules. She thereafter assured that monitoring would continue across every education district in Lagos state to ensure compliance with health restrictions.

“No doubt, COVID-19 has had a negative effect on our schools but we want students to come out stronger and better. We want to make sure schools are closed. We also want to make sure schools are adhering to the closure directive since the number of COVID-19 infections has increased dramatically over time. On the field,” she said.
The DG further advised parents and school owners to follow health restrictions as laid down by the state government for their own health and safety. She also said private school owners should promote regular washing of hands, wearing of masks and using alcohol based hand sanitizers.
She pleaded further that the private schools should embrace online schooling and train their staff to use online resources for their pupils. She also advised parents not to willingly expose their children and wards to danger.
“This is the time to think and plan strategically to form good partnerships with the government in order to get resources for your schools,” she said.
