Dr Rafiu Isamotu, the Commissioner for Health, made this known on Thursday in a statement in Osogbo.

Isamotu said that 11 patients were also discharged from the isolation centre, having tested negative to the virus.

He said that the new confirmed cases were discovered following contact tracing of previous cases in Ilesa, Ile-Ife and Osogbo areas of the state.

The commissioner appealed to residents of the state to always observe all the precautionary measures laid down by the government against the spread of the virus.

He said that with the new cases, the number of confirmed cases in the state had risen to 151 with 87 active cases.

“Lack of strict adherence to safety protocols and guidelines by our people is one of the main reasons for the sudden rise in our COVID-19 cases.

“But, with the recent sentence of a violator of the safety protocol put in place by the state government to 30 days imprisonment, we have shown our resolve to enforce these safety protocols and guidelines.

“With the new confirmed cases, the number of our active cases as at today is 87.

“We have 151 confirmed cases, out of which 59 were treated and discharged and five deaths recorded,” Isamotu said in a statement.
