Presidency Reads Riot Act Against Influence Peddling by Civil Servants

1 Min Read
Lai Mohammed

The Presidency has issued a severe warning to civil servants and political appointees to stop using their positions in office to grant undue favour to anyone seeking jobs or other favours from the Federal Government.

The Federal Government said this practice which it called ‘Influence Peddling’ is not ethical in public service.

The announcement was made through the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who decried the high rate if fraudsters parading Abuja with business cards and fake referral letters from Presidential Aides and top civil servants soliciting for contracts and jobs.

Lai Mohammed warned that the Buhari administration has put stringent measures in place to instill discipline and ensure that government runs smoothly at all levels.

Just last month, the personal aide of a serving Senator, Elisha Abbo was arrested for forging referral letters with the signature of his boss which he used to carry out fraudulent activities in Abuja.

Lai Mohammed admonished Nigerian civil servants and political service holders to allow the system work properly for Nigerians.
