Iran has issued an arrest warrant for US President, Donald Trump for ordering the drone strike that killed top Iranian general, Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad, Iraq.
The Islamic republic has also enlisted the help of Interpol in detaining the US president.
Until his death on January 3, 202o, Soleimani was the Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)’s elite Quds Force, primarily responsible for extraterritorial military and clandestine operations.
According to state-run IRNA news agency, Tehran prosecutor Ali Alqasimehr said on Monday that Trump and 30 others face charges of “murder and terrorism” over the incident, which had threatened to plunge America into a war with Iran.
However, Trump’s alleged accomplices were not named.
Although the US president faces no risk of arrest, the warrant underscores the heightened tensions between the two nations since Trump unilaterally withdrew America from Tehran’s nuclear deal with world powers.
