Hoax Racist Attack: Nigerian brothers agree to testify against Empire Actor Jussie Smollet

3 Min Read

Two Nigerians brothers who helped Empire Star Jussie Smollet stage a fake racist and homophobic attack have agreed to testify against him.

Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo had been arrested as suspects for allegedly carrying out a racist attack on Jussie Smollet and tying a noose around his neck.

The brothers were thrown in the middle of a peculiar case after Jussie Smollet, an openly homosexual African American actor reported that he was attacked by two masked men in downtown Chicago.

He said they made racist and homophobic threats, assaulted him and tied a noose around his neck before running away.

He alleged that his attackers said he was now in MAGA country in reference to President Donald Trump’s campaign slogan, Make America Great Again.

The story attracted international attention with many blaming Donald Trump for inflaming racial tensions. The story however took a turn after Police discovered that the Empire Star, lied about the attack.

It turned out that he paid both Nigerian brothers $3,500 to stage the attack. He was thereafter charged with lying to the police before the Attorney’s Office at Cook County dropped the charges.

A judge however ordered a Special Prosecutor to investigate the affair and an indictment was secured against Smollet.

Both Brothers had been cooperating with the police before they pulled out saying they weren’t cooperating with investigators anymore.

According to news sources at the time, the brothers cited that the Nigerians stopped cooperating because a 9mm seized from their home by the police had gone missing. They also declared that they were being treated like suspects instead of eyewitnesses to a crime.

The attorney for both men, Gloria Schmidt Rodriguez, said in a statement on Friday that they would now continue to cooperate with investigators after the missing gun was found.

In a letter to Special Prosecutor, Dan Webb, she said;

Abel and Ola will recommence their cooperation in the Smollett case now that the handgun has been produced by the Special Prosecutor’s Office.”

In a second letter she stated that both men were now ready to testify in a trial against Jussie Smollet.
