Impeachment: Akeredolu has bribed Assembly members with N10m each – Deputy

Agboola Ajayi

The Ondo State Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, has accused his principal, Rotimi Akeredolu of bribing members of the state’s House of Assembly with N10 million each to impeach him.

Ajayi added that the alleged bribe was given out with a view to secure a two-thirds majority of members needed to sack him from office.

The deputy governor has been at loggerheads with his boss which resulted in a confrontation with the state’s Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami and his exit from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Just after quitting the APC and joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ajayi vowed not to resign from office as those who gave him the mandate did not tell him to quit as deputy governor.

Meanwhile, the deputy governor claimed in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Babatope Okeowo that additional policemen have been stationed at the Ondo State House of Assembly complex.

Ajayi added that the security agents have been increased to prevent assembly members loyal to him from gaining access to the assembly floor to thwart the impeachment moves.

Reacting, state Commissioner of Information, Donald Ojogo, said, “This is the height of perfidy, another pernicious warp from an intellectually challenged and treacherous personality. Knowledge cannot be procured, but only be acquired. For anyone to aver that lawmakers have been financially induced is a gross display of emptiness.

“It becomes more laughable when such comes from someone who had boasted about having majority members in the Assembly. Clearly, while the Executive led by Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN does not believe in inducement, it is left for our very reputable Legislative Arm to either confirm or debunk this spurious allegation.”
