2 Min Read

The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has apologised to President Muhammadu Buhari over the demolition of a part of Nigeria’s High Commission in Accra.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu on Monday night.

According to the statement, the apology was conveyed when the two presidents had a telephone conversation over the issue.

The presidential statement further quoted Akufo-Addo as promising an investigation into the incident.

“President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana Tuesday spoke with President Muhammadu Buhari, expressing his sincere apology for demolition of a building on the premises of Nigerian High Commission in Accra, Ghana.

“In a telephone call, the Ghanaian leader told President Buhari that he has directed full investigation into the incident.

“Earlier in the day, it further emerged that some suspects had been arrested, and will be arraigned in court,” the statement read.

The Herald had earlier quoted Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama as exonerating the Ghanaian government over the incident.

He explained that the demolition was carried out by non-state actors without the knowledge or backing of the government.
