Former NSA John Bolton, Alleges Trump asked China for Help in Re-election Bid

2 Min Read

Former National Security Adviser to US President, Donald Trump has accused his former boss of appealing to China for help in a bid to get re-elected to the White House in November 2020.

In his new book being challenged by the White House and the Department of Justice, Bolton alleged that Trump asked for help from President Xi Jinping of China to win re-election.

Bolton’s allegation is based on the meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jingpin on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan in June, 2019.

According to Bolton;

“Trump, stunningly, turned the conversation to the coming US presidential election [in 2020], alluding to China’s economic capability and pleading with Xi to ensure he’d win.”

“He stressed the importance of farmers and increased Chinese purchases of soybeans and wheat in the electoral outcome.”

Bolton also accused Trump of being uninformed on how to run the White House when he was elected in 2016.

Farmers are an important support base for President Trump and largely supported his election in 2016.

Responding to Bolton on Fox News, Trump said.

“He broke the law. This is highly classified information and he did not have approval. He was a washed up guy,I gave him a chance.”

US Trade Representative, Robert Lighthizer also disputed Bolton’s version of events saying the request for help never happened.

Bolton further accused Trump of supporting China’s building of camps in China’s Xinjiang region saying it was the right thing to do.

In retrospect however, the Trump White House has been openly critical of China’s treatment of Uighurs and recently authorized sanctions against Chinese officials responsible for the repression of Muslims in Xinjiang region.

Trump had also been accused of seeking Russia’s help to get elected in 2016. He was also accused of seeking Ukraine’s help for re-election, and was impeached by the lower house.
